we have had a break-in, the burglers gained access by kicking out the bottom payne of our double glazed french windows. The payne was still intact, we have internal beading, should this happen? or have they been incorrectly fitted. The doors have bolts top and bottom, and did remain locked. I would appreciate any opinion. thanks.

French doors

Hi
Sorry to hear about your break in.
Are the french doors pvc or wood? either way the beading should be strong enough to hold force....if anything the glass should go before the beading.
If they are pvc the beading should be strong enough as long as the beadings where tapped all the way into the grove.
If your doors are wood then silicone and panel pins should of been used to fix the beading. the pins should be at least 2 and a half times the deaph of the beading. e.g. beadings 12mm then pins should be 30mm at least.
If this has been done then the glass should break before the beading.

If they are pvc then there should have been no problem as long as the beading was tapped in correctly. to see how hard it is to dislodge the beading try tapping one back in....you'll find there is a certain nack to putting them in they don't come out or in that easy

you can break in pvc doors . they must be packed properly ,check for any movement by the door handle if its packed you wont be able to push
the pvc at all if its not packed there is enough movement to prise the door open that is what I suspect happened ,doors should have a hook shoot bolt system to ensure this does not happen ,but if you just have
roller lock system the doors must be fitted exactly right to prevent break ins.

A lot of panels can be kicked in in this way as plastic flexes.either silicone the pnel in then bead it or fit a mesh grill over the inside. Its a common form of entry for break ins. Lower glass panels also are another popular target as they are made from toughened glass and shatter easily with the right tools.
The only way to prevent entry in these instances is by fitting a collapsible gate on the inside.
