My french door currently open at a 90 degree angle with the side of my house which petrudes into the patio of my garden. Is there such a thing as a hinge which allows the french doors to open and sit parallel with the side of the house thus saving space in my patio area. Solutions will be gratefully received

It depends how far from the edge of the wall they are hung. You can find something called a parliament hinge which as far as I can tell is just a fancy name for a 180 degree hinge.

Depending on wall depths this may do what you're looking for.

You need "parliament" hinges.

The doors sit about 3cm back from the wall of the house, so they also prevent me from folding the doors parallel with the wall. Will the parliment hinges assist me with this and bring the door out by the 3cm? Thank you for your reply

Google for them and see - you can different sizes. Nevertheless the answer is yes otherwise neither of us would have independently suggested them.
