Missing Lintels above uPVC windows

We've just had a survey done on a house we've had an offer accepted on, and the report has come back saying that we need to query missing lintels above the uPVC windows.
All the windows are uPVC and the front windows are bay windows.
Has anyone had this problem? Is it a big problem as the mortgage company are still willing to lend? and is it expensive to sort?

All replies will be gratefully received. Thanks

gazhigg,
Houses used to be built with timber frames and these were used as a support for the brickwork above them. uPVC windows are not load supporting so it is possible that the brickwork above an opening without a lintol would fall down.
If the front bay windows are ones with structure above them (rather than a small roof) then it could be a big issue if structural support has not been incorporated.
Retro fitting of lintols is expensive and messy.
