Is this Double Glazing Fitting a Bodge Where Upstairs Window Extends Past Brickwork

I have just had new double glazing fitted and noticed that an upstairs widow protrudes beyond the brickwork which must be because the old timber frame widow was much shallower than the new window. It appears they have added plastic strip around the outside with sealer to bridge the gap from the wall to widow edge.
Is this ok or should they have chipped out the extra space required for a double glazed unit?
