How do I Remove Saracen Bayonet Shootbolts from a Window?

I've been searching on forums, youtube etc, but I haven't seen instructions on how to remove the bayonet part of the shootbolt extensions from a window (These bits: http://www.dgsupplyline.co.uk/window-hardware/shootbolt-gearboxes/shootbolt-extensions/saracen-shootbolt-extensions-clip-in.html).
The closest I came was this post:http://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/jammed-shootbolt.426536/#post-3317766
And this video:

Neither tackle the logistics of the mechanism being in-situe.
I'm told it's a case of pushing the shootbolt extensions in hard and twisting anti-clockwise, but that just unscrews the threaded rod. I can't get hold of the other part through the handle holes, or through the hole where the shootbolt extensions come out.
I didn't really want to whack something into the end of the extension tubes, as I'll then have to buy a new pair.
Any ideas?
