VELUX Window Blow Out

by happyworker » Sat Jan 19, 2019 2:38 pm

We have 4 identical Velux windows in our kitchen/diner. One blew out this morning (with quite a bang) and the glass from the inner pane came crashing down in shards all over the floor. Thankfully no-one was underneath or near at the time because it could have been disastrous.

I am not sure whether to claim on insurance or pay for repair but would appreciate some guidance please.

The frames look like they are 2002 installed, the sealed double glazed glass unit measures 63cm x 82cm glass unit and are in very good condition. We have lived here 3 years.

Is this type of blowout quite common? What might have caused it, the exterior pane is ok and i see no evidence of an impact?

Any idea on the likely replacement cost including labour?

In advance, many thanks.
