Back Door Security and Composite Door

by Grust » Wed Nov 20, 2019 5:06 pm

I need to replace our back door. It needs to have a clear glazed top half, both to let light in and also for the view of the garden, there being no other window in that area of the cottage to give that view.

As the door is not overlooked and we care quite a lot about security I will specify laminated glass. Now, here's my problem. I am thinking about getting a composite door and frame as they are supposed to be able to withstand attack so well. Would that just be a waste of money because no burglar is likely to attack the door fabric when there's a big window to smash through, even if it is laminated? Would the extra money the composite door would cost be better spent going towards CCTV?

I'd be grateful for your thoughts on this. Thanks

Most composite doors these days come with standard double glazing glass which shows similar qualities in terms of security as laminated glass. Laminated safety glass can also be combined with double glazing for a more efficient and effective result and could potentially be something to look into.
