Fitting second hand uPVC DG

Hi,

First time posting here….

I have a solid block work car port which I’m building a stud wall across the front of to make a home workshop. Mrs Ratchet found me a second hand uPVC window for free, but I need to know how to attach it to the studwork please. The glazing is in, so I can’t screw from inside the uPVC frame to the outside, but I’m worried if I screw in from stud to window I might damage the double glazing.

Any tips? Window is 1800 x 1500mm so pretty heavy and tricky to move!

Hi ratchet,
For security you should screw the frame in place. To do this you will have to remove any fixed DGUs so you can screw from the inside of the frame outwards.

Ok will do thank you.

Does the glass come out easily? I assume it’s just fairly large diameter wood screws and not anything more specialist?

Hi ratchet,
If it's a window that has been manufactured in the last 20 or so years remove the beads and lift out the DGU. Prior to this it may be necessary to remove the rubber strips first to release the glazing beads. Older than these you may have a window where the DGU is stuck in the frame using double sided tape.
Long wood screws into masonry plugs will be fine.
