Trickle vent frame question

by Dazzer7 » Wed Oct 25, 2023 10:00 am

Hoping someone can confirm if a retro fit trickle vent has been fitted incorrectly (or correctly) as the drillings for the vent have also punctured the outer skin well of the window frame. What happens if water gets in there or is it just extra ventilation.
Thank you

Hi dazzler7,
Presumably your image shows the top of the window casement (the framing which holds the glass) rather than the frame itself. If this is the case what has been done is ineffective because there is no path through to outside.
Water getting in the hole in the top of the casement should just drain out the bottom .

Thank you for the response.
Yes it is the top of the frame but they did go through the outer as well. This was just collateral damage on the way through. 5mm lower they would have missed the well in the top.

Hi dazzler7,
In that case it’s probably worth sealing up the holes otherwise you will have a ventilated frame all round the window. A piece of electrical trunking may be about the right width - glue it in place with pipe solvent.
