Claiming For Damage to Property by an Insured Driver

We have had some damage to our boundary wall and front garden caused by a van driver who skidded on black and lost control of the vehicle. The driver's insurance should be responsible for the repairs and we thought we could claim against the driver's insurance. Our Home Insurance provider tells us that we have to make the claim through our Home Insurance which will then show as a claim on our policy next year. Is this fair? We do not want a claim showing on our policy which will then, most likely, increase our premium. Is there a way around this? Thank you in anticipation of any replies.

I would like to know who is responsible for paying for home insurance when I have a long-term agreement with the landlord.

The best home insurance policy offering the greatest compensation will very much depend on the type of policy and extras you need and the amount of cover required. After years of searching for home insurance myself I decided to use a specialist broker and quite frankly the are doing great job.
