the loft is boarded,i.e floors and around the sides about 2 feet high and on some of the roof, but even before this was done......im getting spots of white mould on the beams and roof timber,is this due to ventilation?

if so what do i do,the roof of the house has no felt, its the old type roof (in good condition) where the tiles were cemented on.

Is the white spots due to ventilation (lack of ) or something else.

Yes this is normaly due to ventilation. Look up wet rot and dry rot on the internet to get pictures to see if it resembles any of these.
One is caused by ventilation and one by damp getting onto the timber.
To allow more ventilation you can buy soffit vents which can easily be fitted into the soffits (Under your Facia boards) on the exterior of the house. You can also buy slate vents which can be fitted by removing a couple slates. These both allow air to circulate through the roof easier.
Post back if it looks like a problem caused by damp and ill try and explain in more detail how to resolve that problem.
Hope this helps
