Insulating between a solid external wall & plaster and l Information, help, tips and advice on cavity walls, ceilings and lofts etc....

Hi,

We live in a victorian end of terrace, which has solid walls We are looking to insulate these walls without having to cause much disruption.

My idea is that their is still a cavity between the soild external wall and the plaster and lath approximately 50mm to 60mm in depth which could be filled, just like cavity wall insulation.

I am just finding it hard to find a product that i could use to inject or blow into this cavity, which is breathable but water resistant. I have found a product known as Froth Pak which is a closed cell slow rise foam which can be injected into the cavity but this is expensive.

Anyone with any ideas would be greatly recieved.

At the moment your solid walls are breathing into the cavity behind the lathe and plaster lining. Sealing this surface with foam will lead to the internal surface of the walls becoming damp/wet leading mould and rot.
Filling the cavity with foam may cause the L&P lining to be blown off the solid wall, foam produces some pressure whilst it is expanding.
Suggest you line over the top of the L&P lining with foam backed plasterboard.
