Loft Installation and raising joists

by Yogs » Mon Mar 09, 2009 4:37 pm

Hi,

I have just put in some new loft insulation between the extisting joist, in order to meet the minimum requirement I would like to put extra insulation at 90 degrees of the existing loft insulation. the problem I have is that I have existing pipes over the existing joist and would like to riase the joists by putting 4 x 2's at 90 degrees of the existing joist. and then put up loft boards.

My existing joist run paralel to the wall and I live in a mid terraced house.

Will I have enough support to do this? and also what distance do i need to have between the joists.

I will be using the joist as storage space.

Thanks

Yogin

Yogs,
Depends on size and pitch of existing joists, where there are supporting walls and what you will be storing. Books and bars of gold tend to be very heavy.......
