Loft Insulation and Halogen Lights

by ppj50 » Mon Mar 21, 2011 5:31 pm

I am about to complete a project left unfinished by Bob the Building Bodger, who left my insulation in the ceiling void in a mess.

There are a lot of halogen lights in the ceiling and I can remember once seeing these should have a 'cage' around them in the ceiling void to keep the insulation away from the heat of the lamp fitting in the ceiling space. I can't find anywhere selling these 'cages'.

Any tips on whether these are needed with modern fittings which seem to run cooler, and/or any suppliers out there?

Thanks - PJ

ppj50,
Depends on which halogen lights they are and the rating of the lamps fitted in them. Generally leave insulation 50mm clear all round the fitting.

There is a selection of covers on this page:
Google "tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Fire_and_Smoke/Fire_Cover_Downlight/index.html"
