Insulating Basement

Hello,
Im about to start renovating my basement at a ski chalet in France. All walls/floor are concrete and perfectly dry. My question is, should I use rigid foam board and fasten them straight onto the concrete walls, tape all joints and seal all gaps. Or, do I need to have an air gap between the wall and the insulation? I have looked into this subject in great detail but I seem to get various ideas/opinions on condensation/moisture build up etc. After the insulation is in I will batten then clad the walls with ship lap style softwood timber..Any tips or advice much appreciated, thanks in advance :)
