I have inherited and old lake home. The previous owner installed a drop ceiling, and insulated above it. The original ceiling is insulated with barrier toward living space. There is also insulation with the barrier toward the living space on top of the drop ceiling. I have terrible venting. The picture I attached tells the whole story. Can anyone advise on this scenario. I am wondering if the insulation above the drop ceiling is helpful or harmful. Thank you for any advisement you can provide.

The air gap between the orginal and drop ceilings might well cause a few condensation issues so you have two options. Establish an air flow within this space by clearing out insulation from the front, adding a vented ridge tile and make sure there is a clear air passage between.

Or you can fill the void with as much insulation as you can possibly get in there and remove the need for ventilation
