Timber frame house insulation

Hi, first post here.
I had three companies round today to quote for cavity wall insulation to our new home that we moved into two weeks ago.
The house is a 1970's build and does have cavity walls. However, I have found out that it is timber framed, so apparently that is a no no for regular cavity wall installation. From what I can tell I have the outer brick wall/cavity wall/plaster board.
Is there any product on the market that I could look to use? One of the people today suggested lining my walls with rolls of polystyrene which would apparently work well.
Open to suggestions. Just look for a way to maintain heat in my home.
Cheers!
