New DIYer Needs a bit of Pointing Guidence With Insulation

Hi Folks,
Sorry if i missed a similar topic regarding this but my forum searches came up empty.
I need to be pointed in the right direction in regards to insulating a house built in 1996. I live in a rainy and windy area so didnt like the idea of retrofitted wall cavity insulation due to damp risk. Our house is boiling hot in all the rooms facing the sun (22-24c) and freezing cold in the shaded parts (15-17c).It is also hard to heat on cold days (the loft seems ok though).
Are there any insulation method out there that (not wall cavity insulation) that can help with this, if it is even a problem?
I would be most grateful for any help/advice/links/products.
Cheers
