Is this vermiculite and is it dangerous?

by ahearsum » Fri Sep 25, 2020 12:27 pm

I'm remodelling my first floor bathroom and lifted the chipboard floor to find a load of small stones. An internet search suggested it my be Vermiculite and that it might not be that good for me if I breath in the dust. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this and if it is dangerous how to get rid of it?

Nearly all vermiculite contains asbestos, which can cause lung cancer when inhaled.
Why 'don't you try granite stone?

Looking more into it online and people's opinions it looks like it is actually stone chips of some sort rather than Vermiculite. I'm curious about why you would put stone chips under the floorboards though
