How to best insulate an original room in loft.

by Jimmy_Mac » Sun Dec 04, 2022 3:36 pm

Hi,

I moved into a property built in the 1880s and there is an original "room in loft". This isn't a loft conversion, but was an original feature. As far as I can tell, the ceiling of the room pretty much backs on to the roof, which is tile and felt. There may be insulation between the ceiling and roof but regardless, we want to minimise heat loss.

I am looking for advice on how best to insulate so I can get the right tradesman in. We will probably need to insulate the walls as well.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi jimmy_mac,
Probably your best and easiest solution would be foam backed plasterboard, don't forget mechanical fixings and to check the existing plasterboard/tiled roof recess is ventilated.
