Insulating my very cold bathroom ceiling

Hi guys, 1st post and I'm an absolute DIY newbie but cant afford to pay for a tradesman so I wonder if I can get some advice?
My bathroom has a sloped roof with no insulation and no heating so very cold and im wondering if i can simply put up some insulation board, with perhaps some insulation roll above it?
If so then would a 25mm type be good enough? can i simply paint it before putting it up or would it need plastering?
Would it be better to do in 2 sections for access afterwards?
What is the best way to hold it up? i was thinking of suspending it on batons or similar but would it need to be fixed in permanently with mastic or something?
what is the best way to cut these boards? a saw? stanley knife?
thanks in advance.

Hi buddie66,
Use the thickest foam backed plasterboard you can afford, choose tapered edge so once it is up you only need to deal with the joins. Find the existing rafters and screw into these.
