J Legge from Isle of Man rim lock help please!

by Smithsy » Sun Mar 28, 2021 10:53 am

We’ve got a rim lock made by J Legge from the Isle of Man (we think from the three legged logo) and we are struggling to make the lock under tension. The springs don’t seem to have an obvious home. The back casing stops them falling out but it doesn’t keep them under tension. See photo of where we think the springs should go but they don’t stay put and all we can think of is adding screws so they have something to grasp on but we shouldn’t have to do this surely! It’s second hand so possibly the internal bits aren’t the right ones. Anyone got experience of rim locks or locks and able to help? TIA

Hi smiths
I think the spring should be fitted on the spindle which stick out of the latch plate just above the backplate screw hole.
Regards S
