Space for Gate put in Wrong Place in new Garden Wall

I have had a garden wall built and the builder put the opening for the gate in the wrong place.

He has now cut a hole in the wall where the gate should be. The sides of the new opening aren't completely straight and where he has cut the brick it's a bit of a mess.

before he did it I asked him if he was going to brick up either side of the opening and he said that couldn't be done and we would just have to screw a board on either side to fit the gate to.

Is this right or is it possible to make the gap good with brick?

Hi,

If your builder has put the hole in the wrong place he should rectify the problem. I think the bonding may take some work (time) to correct and that is probably why he has said it can not be corrected. If you want a neat cut in brickwork you should use a diamond tipped cutting blade. If the new opening was cut by lump hammer and bolster it will likely be a bit ragged. I'd ask a local bricklayer to take a look and ask him how much he would charge to correct the work. Then go back to the original builder and say if you don't correct your error I will employ a bricklayer to and deduct it from your bill.

It is not your fault the hole is in the wrong place so why put up with it if you are paying someone to do the job?
