coving sizes

by briertonlane » Wed Aug 13, 2008 5:00 pm

I have just built a partition wall and wish to add coving to the new wall that matches the existing coving. Existing coving appears to be 127 mm but when I purchased some it is slightly too large to match. Could the old coving be metric? The new stuff is about 1.5 cm larger.

Is there any way I can match the existing coving? I reall dont fancy removing it all and startic again: it is plaster!

briertonlane,

Depending when the coving was first fixed, it could be in the age of imperial measurements, which always differ a little from metric (which is the standard now). You can get coving sizes at 127mm, 100mm and 90mm as a standard off the shelve products. Specialist maybe able to offer different sizes and styles. You could be lucky if you try the 100mm size it my not match identically but with a bit of feathering with filler could get away with it.
Sorry can't help much more, it is a problem matching metric and imperial products of this type.
Regards and good luck

Thanks for the reply.

I noticed there is a provider on the internet selling 115mm coving. This is pretty close to the stuff we have so I'll have to go for that. What I thought was going to ber a cheap job is going to cost the thick end of £50 when you include post and packing and the two bits I have to buy (only sell packs of six) but dont need.
