I have been told that smooth over is no good for large areas of holes on a plastered wall is this true. In fact the person told me the stuff should not be allowed to be sold, can any one advise should I just use carlite browning, I am covering this up with mermaid shower wall so it does not need to look great.

If you have to fill holes in platerboard please see our project of this name in the projects section (link at the top of the page). There is nothing that can fill holes effectively if they are just that, holes. Anything you use needs to have something to push against to adhere, just gripping the sides of a hole is not enough and it will drop out in no time.
