Boards that can handle rain?

by johnheritage » Thu Jun 25, 2009 4:37 pm

Just finished a week long plastering course and forgot to ask if there's any type of boarding I can use (cement or water.res gypsum) to board over a wall outside?

I'm in the UK and the garden wall is a mess. Got lots to do, so rendering it all would take forever - and my arm is already saw after that week.

Is there a board suitable for going on pressure treated battens or dot and dab that can handle rain? What about a skim to go over that?

What should I know about the edges, wicking of moisture from the ground, rain making it's way down the back, moisture under the sides and such?

Thanks!

I think "yes" to all of my questions, it's called cement board - Versapanel / Hardiebacker are two UK examples, I've since discovered.

don't think that you will find any plastering/board materials suitable for this purpose not even cement boards. render is really the only way to go.
