by bayner1974 » Sun Jun 03, 2007 1:24 pm

HELLO EVERYONE,
CAN I FIRST EXPLAIN THAT I AM A BUILDING VIRGIN SO PLEASE FORGIVE MY NIEVETY.
I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED A PROPERTY IN SPAIN. THE HOUSE IS VERY OLD AND WAS ORIGINALLY RENDERED AND PLASTERED USING LIME. THIS SKILL NOW SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN ABANDONED AND REPLACED WITH CONCRETE OR DOT AND DAB. I WISH TO REPLACE AND MAKE GOOD USING LIME PLASTER AS THE OTHERS EITHER DONT LET THE WALLS BREATH OR TAKES AWAY THE ASTHETIC QUALITY OF THIS VERY OLD HOUSE. THE PROBLEM IS I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO GO ABOUT THIS.
FIRSTLY I AM LOOKING FOR HOW TO MIX AND MAKE LIME PLASTER AND WITH WHAT INGRERDIENTS.
HOW TO PREPARE, APPLY, AND FINISH.
AND ANY OTHER HINTS OR TIPS THAT MAY BE OF USE.
THIS LIME PLASTER WILL BE USED BOTH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY.
I WOULD BE TRUELY GRATEFULL FOR ANY HELP ANYONE CAN OFFER AS THE HOUSE IS IN RATHER A BAD STATE OF REPAIR.

You need some books and a plastering course I'm afraid. The mix itself is in our mortar mixes project and includes lime for an external render. The mix need be no different for internal use with lime. Its mixed in a mixer. Plastering is a skill and requires a great deal of practice to get the coats even in thickness, which they need to be to avoid cracking so we suggest you go to our plastering page and book a course. We also have books on plastering available on the website, its not the kind of thing that can be taught in a forum.
