plastering a previously tiled wall

by generate » Mon Nov 29, 2010 11:19 am

I am renovating an old house in Spain.

I have removed all the old tiles from a bathroom and want to plaster then paint the walls.

There is a lot of old tile adhesive left on the walls, which is very difficult to remove. Can I just re-plaster over the top of it? The cement render underneath seems sound.

I want to end up with a rough / rustic look, so it doesn't have to be particularly smooth, just waterproof.

Thanks!

you could use a thin bonding coat over the adhesive and float it off. then skim finish. that's what i'd be inclined to do.

dot & dab is another option.
