Hello, when decorating a 1980s house, we discovered when stripping the old wallpaper that large patches of the plaster came off. On looking more closely, it appears that the wall in question was skimmed directly onto breeze block without any undercoat plaster being applied first. This plaster coat in max 3mm deep. My question is can I repair this by patching these areas with multi-finish plaster, or will I be wasting my time and should I dry-line the whole wall instead?

Any advice greatly appreciated .....

I would hack it back so all the plaster is off the area, pva it then use carlite bonding to build out the area and then finish it with multi finish plaster

Thanks! One last question. How deep should the bonding be? There is a door in this wall + electrical sockets so if possible I don't want to make it too thick or I will have to take off the door furnature etc.

fill out the area with the bonding, level with the rest of the wall, use a straight edge, long piece of timber, to level it out, once its set 2hrs later you can scrape it back with your trowel to allow for the finishing coat
