Newbie Plastering Tips Needed on Feathering in and Which Direction to Plaster to Doorway?

I have recently moved house, and am in the process of blocking off all the windows above the doors upstairs, and taking all the doors out downstairs and am plastering over the door frames.
Now I've done 1 job above the door which turned out absolutely fine (it is only a small patch)

But. When it came to do the downstairs wall, it was a disaster (to me) the doorway has not been cut out level, so instead of putting in straight pieces of wood/plaster board. I made it up level with a bonding/base coat with the angle beads over the top.

I put PVA on approx 50/50 and chucked the plaster on, and by the time I slapped it on the other side, and got back round to trowel it up.... it was almost rock solid!!!!!!!

So attached is a picture of what the finish is like, and would like to re try this. So my questions are:

How far away do I need to feather this in

Do I need to go from the door way out, or go towards the doorway when putting the plaster on.

Do I need to put 2 coats of plaster on, or is one fine?

Should I do the wall first, finish that, then door the inside of the doorframe so I have time to do the plastering.

Because I want to nail this, as it can work out quite expensive to get the amount I need done by a pro.

This is the finish I got.

And any tips for plastering this, once the tiles are off.
