i have removed a partition wall in the living room. the ceilings throughout the house have artex "stipple" pattern(i think), apart from the area which was enclosed by the partition. i am having trouble matching the pattern which was originally used to paint the ceiling. i have tried using a long pile roller, a stiff brush, sponge, even balled up newspaper to create the pattern. i can't seem to get the stipple of the paint deep enough to match the rest of the roof. any help would be appreciated

Its not just the tool used for the pattern David, its the thickness of the artex also. This can vary so much as you will have discovered. A deep stipple is usually obtained by using a special artex brush which you can buy from most decorators merchants. Its a flat pad with a D handle on one side and lots of rubber stipples on the other. You press it up into the artex and pull it off again.
