Is Wallpaper Paste a Problem for a Skim Finish?

Hoping someone will save me some back breaking work....?
We're currently undergoing a major extension on our house, as a result I've been stripping wallpaper on the rooms that will have a skim finish applied to leave the walls looking smooth. I'm steaming the wallpaper off, but I notice that this is leaving paste on the walls and ceiling, I'm scraping as I go, but there's no guarentee I'm getting all the paste off. Long story short, will old/dried wallpaper paste left on the plasterboard mean problems for the intended skim finish? either at the point it goes on? as it dries? or in the future?
