I have recently (2 months ago) had 2 ceilings replastered professionally.(I had removed old polystyrene tiles and the plasterer replaced with celotex and plaster.
The plasterer mentioned I should use a smear of caulk along the join between the old wall and the new ceiling plaster to prevent future cracking.

I have just read about needing a mist coat of emulsion as the first coat on the new ceiling plaster.

1. So, my question - - should I apply the mist coat frst and then the caulk afterwards? Or the other way round? does it even matter?

I was just thinking that the caulk might creat a small border around the edges of the ceiling and prevent the mist-coat doing it's job?

2. To try and inhibit future cracking, is there a plytex style product still available for ceilings?
(I do not want artex, or (god-forbid) ceiling paper - I remember hours of grief with my Father in the 70s, papering ceilings)
