Removing artex that's been plastered over

Most of the ceilings are lath and mortar with artex that has been plastered over. They are quite uneven in places and I'd like to get rid of them. The artex is from the 70s or earlier, so almost certainly contains asbestos.
What would be involved in removing the artex, or the entire lath and mortar ceiling?

I've recently moved in to a 1960s bungalow without thinking of whether there would be asbestos present. Only when I looked in loft I found a disused asbestos water tank. Thus I had my ceilings tested and except lounge tested positive.
I approached a licenced asbestos remover and have accepted quotes of about £2000 for removal of 50sq m of gyproc plaster ceilings.
And about £1000 from a builder to put the ceilings.
Very pleased with their work.
