Is it "ok" to remove old lathes and plaster

Help!

We have recently bought an old 250 yr old ex-village post office, and have started to renovate ourselves and I need some advice on whether removing the old plaster and lathes from the internal walls and replacing with plasterboard/skimming is ok?

The house is not listed, but obviously has a lot of character, and I want to be sure that this is ok to do before I start taking it off!!

Any advice would be most welcome - Thank you in advance!

Cheers
Chris

Hi Dams,
norminally this would be okay but i have heard of occassions when it has not been allowed but these are rare, what suggest you do is have a word with local building controls and they should point you out in the right direction.
Good Luck

Hi I am a plasterer with 25 Yrs experiance and specialise in lime plastering.
May i suggest before removing any lath and plaster You find out if the house is listed,Get in touch with the listed buildings officer for your area,You may be doing more harm than good
Hope This Helps.
