moved into house. one corner of chimney breast is off line - in 2" from floor to ceiling. I'd like to straighten it. Should I knock off the existing corner and restart. can i use finish plaster over existing painted plaster to make up deficit. should i use those angle pieces and skim over them. as you can see i am a complete illiterate when it comes to plastering (in fact most diy). any advice please?

hi,get a length of 2"x2"timber to match the height from floor to ceiling. along the length mark a line from corner to corner.cut along this line and you will end up with two pieces of timber 2" running down to nothing. fix these to the side of the chimney then cover with plasterboard.dont forget to set the front piece back from the face of the chimney to allow for the plasterboard and a few mm of skim.
