IS IT OK TO DOT AND DAB PLASTERBOARD (FOIL BACKED) OVER OLD FIREPLACE AND PUT AIR VENT AT LOW LEVEL IN PB . WOULD I HAVE TO USE PVA ON EXISTING PLASTER TO ATTACH NEW PLASTERBOARD AND FINALLY WOULD THE FOIL BACKED PB EVEN STICK TO THE DABS OF PLASTER. ANY INFO APPRECIATED

Hi suvees,
If the board is surported by the floor should be okay, but why are you using foil back (duplex) plasterboard around the fire place do you have a moisture problem and is that why you are venting?

cheers kbrownie,
I am using foil backed pb as thought it would help keep heat in room and because i am blanking off fireplace ,would stop heat going up the lum .No moisture problem in room but thought these would be more preventative measures and would not do any harm . chimney not blocked off at top so vent is to stop moisture forming in chimney lum . Thanks for any feedback .

Hi again suvees,
Well i've done this many times and had no problems, if you really wanted to you could tear strips off foil were the dabs are going for extra bonding.
But there's just not foil back boards for insulating dependig how much more you wish to come out from wall?

suvees,
If your venting and have no previous problems there should be no need for any problems to start.
