Is there an adhesive I can use to dot & dab aquapanel onto a slightly damp chimney breast, or should I batten it?

We did dot aqua with grip fill once (see project on adhesives) and it was fine but the bond is only as good as the surface tou are bonding to and if you have a damp chimney breast it would be a great deal better to batten it.
