plastering over painted surfaces

by willi101 » Sun Mar 23, 2008 11:31 am

hello. when plastering on painted surfaces i found the plaster first coat to slip on the wall on the application. i applied pva neat as instructed but this did not provide the neccessary key to bond the plaster. i was advised to let the plaster to go off for 1-2hours pva 3-1 then apply the top coat. this worked fine as a remedy but too time consuming to be practical . i was told to key the wall roughly which i have done so . please can any one advise on the fastest process on plastering to painted surfaces or to be practical the less time consuming method . thankyou.

where possible the paint should be removed, depending on the type of paint, as some paints will react with plaster and will blow. It is generally acceptede that you should seal the wall with pva and allow to dry 24 hours before appplying plasterin the normal way :) .
