I need to replace my torbeck bottom entry [snigger] cistern valve. I've found the entire unit for sale at Screwfix for £9.99. Do I also need to buy a new fibre washer for it? If so, does anyone know what size - ½" or ¾"?

Cheers,

Yes - always replace a fibre washer even if it looks OK they're so cheap it makes little difference. Whilst on that subject buy both (as they are so cheap) or take the valve with you when you buy. It's probably 1/2" though.

torbeck valves usually come supplied with all of the washers that you will need.

depends which washer he means. If he means the fibre washer on the tap connector (which is what I interpreted him to mean) then he should change it - thats why I said 1/2 inch.

I agree that the VV should come with the necessary washers to achieve a seal at the cistern but these are usually a rubber compound rather than fibre.

of course. i did the opposite and assumed he was referring to the washers at the cistern.

so yes, the fibre washer in the tap connector should be renewed and probably won't be supplied with the valve.
