Fibreglass insulation Material in my hot water system

I recently discovered that the insulation covering my loft water storage tank had fallen in to the tank. The black plastic holding the insulation had burst open filling the tank with fibreglass wool. This material has now found its way to the hot water cylinder and the hot water taps blocking the filters and my power shower pump. Can I flush the system or do I need to replace my hot water cylinder and pipework

it'll be awkward to get out, but renewing the cylinder seems abit drastic.

There should be a drain valve on the cylinder, using this to drain the cylinder will empty it - running the taps does not empty the cylinder, I would fill and drain a few times, remove taps and shower and allow water to run to clear the pipes and re-assemble. Time consuming but alot cheaper than a new cylinder.
