My boiler is currently bust so I'm relying on my immersion heater. It works but gives only enough water for washing up bowl, but not enough for a bath. Any ideas? I've already replaced the immersion element to no avail.

This all depends on the size of tank you have, and how long an element you fitted. Elements come in two lengths. Did you replace a short one with another???

sorry for delay - problems with internet!
Yes I replaced the element with a short one, identical to the one I removed.

It seems reasonable the element you have fitted is too short for the tank. A short immersion will only heat the top few inches of water, hence the you only get a bowl full of hot water.
