Gunge on Hot Water filter in Mira Shower Mixer

Hi, for a few years I've once a month cleaned the small guaze filter on the Hot Water feed inside my Mira shower mixer, as it gets a build up of gunge and reduces the hot water coming out of the shower.

I've been told it's limescale in the copper hot water tank, which feeds the shower, and that I need to get a new tank. It's probably fairly old, 10 years or more.

Is this good advice. It also takes quite a while for the shower to get hot suggesting a restriced flow or lack of pressure. The tank is about 6m from the shower. Cold water side if ok (gravity fed).

Firstly, I would examine the deposits to ensure they are limescale. Do they dissolve in scale remover?

Even assuming the debris is limescale replacing the tank is only going to be a short term solution as a new tank will fur up just as much as the one you have.

Maybe the best way is to open the tank and "hoover" out any debris and then consider the possibility of installing a water softener to prevent the build up occurring.

It may be also investing in larger inline filters fitted in a more convenient location that will prevent the Mira filters which are quite small from becoming clogged.
