Wetroom Traps

by RT » Fri Sep 05, 2008 2:12 pm

Hi. Looking for some advice please.

We have had a new wetroom installed by our builders. The entire bathroom was ripped out and rebuilt from scratch. It is a ground floor and being built on concrete. During the build we were shown a Caro Flow trap that was to be fitted. We were then told that there was not enough depth to have this fitted and they would seek an alternative. A few weeks later the tiles of the wetroom floor have all been fitted and a chrome plate fitted over the waste outlet... but when you lift the chrome plate all you see is the waste pipe that has been made flush with a concrete hole - there has been no Caro Flow trap fitted and no U-bend. :? Although I have done some research and found that Caro Flow do a Lo-Line model that would have probably fitted in the hole and worked. We are concerned that overtime this will become difficult to clean and smells will develop. Already when you flush the toilet you can hear gurgling and some smells.

My question is should a proper trap such as Caro Flow have been fitted? Are they really an essential part of a wetroom? Is it best practice (or acceptable) to just have the waste pipe running direct with no trap?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

There should be a trap, like you say over time you will get smells coming from it, especially if it connects into the soil pipe, wich it will do if it gurgles when the tilet is flushed.

Also how will you clean this ? traps would have a removable center to that you can lift it out and clean the hair and soap from it - then replace.

I'd get the builders back, and ask exactly what they've done, why, and ask them to put it right.
