Hi

I am in the process of fitting a shower. The room had a bath in previously and the waste (out of the wall) is currently 4 inches above floor level. The shower trap will be below floor level - help?

I dont really want to build the shower up as it is a tiny room and a step isnt really practical, it would be difficult to drop the waste as the floor joists run parallel to the exterior wall.

Any advice will be gratefully accepted.

Wont raise shower, can't drop waste exit height. Only option you have is to fit a pump.

can i ask why you cant drop the waste thru the floor then out thru the wall and install new piping

It was due to effort involved (having to chisel joists etc...) We did drop the waste in the end, and fortunately (or unfortunately) Roger the Bodger who owned the house previously had the too long (with too many joints) waste pipe running upwards towards the soil stack. We used less joints and a shorten pipe and we didnt have to mess around with the soil stack : )

Can any one answer 2 questions please?

---> Does it make any difference when fitting a shower tray if the waste goes to the front or the back?

---> Also is there any disadvantages for using a high density foam shower tray as opposed to a stone cast one?

It doesn't matter at all where the outlet is. If you have the choice try and position it away from where people will stand so as to avoid blocking it.

Stone trays are seen as being better because they are stronger, will take more weight, and as they are solid, will not flex and so are less likely to break the seal between the tray and tiles.
