I have a log burner with a back boiler that heats the water that is conected to a Randall 102 timer (very very old by the looks of it!!)
When we light the fire the tank in the loft boils the water so hot it spurts out and sounds like an erupting volcano,we have tried running the hot water off but still we can hear he water boiling.
Can you advise me on the problem and what can I do to rectify it.

This is potentially a very dangerous situation. Not only is there a risk of explosion caused by the expanding steam, but if the header tank is plastic, it is likely to fail cascading boiling water into the rooms below.

You don't explain what is the purpose of the timer. Is the system a gravity fed type or is it pumped? Is the hot water cylinder type an direct or indirect?

If the cylinder is indirect, running off the water will little effect on the boiling problem.


Do not run the boiler until the problems have been resolved.
