i bought a shower tray not so long back and it came with a 32mm flexy pipe built in to the wate outlet. now its fitted im suffering from slow drainage in the tray. i was under the impression shower waste had to be 40mm? if so. how do these companies get away with selling them if its not fit for purpose?

You are correct it should be 40mm. I don't know how they get away with it. Designed for another country I suppose, but anyway, I could probably list another dozen or so things that break regs and are sold in the UK. It really racks me off, as if anything goes wrong, I have to put it right, and it ultimately reflects on my workmanship! And makes installation more difficult and costly.

Hi chrisroberts,

Unfortunately they can and do sell any old rubbish, in the eyes of the law, it’s up to the householder/fitter(plumber) to ensure that it is legal.

as pulmbbob said, 40mm ensures good flow.

Anything you buy please ensure it’s ‘WRAS’ approved, if not, do NOT buy, it may cost a few bob more, but at least it WILL work.

Regards
