Constant sound of running water...

I live in a ground floor flat of a Victorian conversion. Late at night when there are no taps running in my flat and all the lights are out upstairs so I assume there are no taps running there I can hear the sound of constant running water coming from the front door. this also continues in the day time.

I know from when I renovated the flat that the sound is coming from the area when the main supply comes in under our front doors and then splits for the supply upstairs and supply downstairs.

Is this sound likely to be a leak at this junction or is this sound normal?

Is there any way of testing for a leak without ripping up floorboards?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

sound of running water

Hi

Had a similar issue a couple of years age. When I got up in the night and it was quiet , I could hear a sound of running water. Spent ages searching for a leak or signs of water accumulation to no avail.
This was driving me crazy.
Any how a few days later I noticed a wet patch in the pavement on the other side of the street and we had not had rain for a while.
Turns out that there was a leak in the water main and the noise I could hear was that. Sound travels great distances through water and pipe work I am told.
Once the water company had fixed the main the noise stopped. Funny how once you get used to the noise you only notice it when it stops.
Not saying this could be the case for you but may be worth lokking into. Good Luck
