water softener

Hi
i've got a water softener under my sink and i'm running this upto my f & e
tank for the heating is it ok to run this to the main cistern or should i use the rising main the system is a low pressure gravity feed for all cold water outlets but the kithcen sink. thanks

my softener feeds everything bar the ktichen sink tap (drinking water) this is how it is most beneficially installed.

you would normally install these just after the rising main so everything is run off it. although sometimes the toilets are run from the main prior to the softener as it might be deemed a waste to have softened water for flushing.

and as nitro says the kitchen tap is usually left unsoftened - legal requirement as it is your drinking water. some get around this law by keeping the garden tap unsoftened (garden does not like softened water anyway) but you can get dual kitchen taps that will give both soft and hard water.
