After living in my flat for 3 years I've eventually got around to decorating the kitchen.....

It is a galley kitchen with limited room for movement - along the longest wall was in order from the door -

1st - washing machine, 2nd fridge freezer and 3rd cooker

To make more worktop space, I've relocated the cooker to the 1st space, then the new firdge and then the washing machine. This also makes more sense as the washig machine is now next to the sink and the pipes are no longer behind all the other appliances (this made them sit a distance from the wall).

My problem is that I want to shorten the washing machine pipes (therefore they no longer run behind the other appliances).

The previous owner must've had a degree in inventive plumbing and had taped together some of the waste pipe plumbing with household tape!!!

So, I really need to start from scratch, rip out all the old washing machine waste pipe plumbing and replace, how do i do this and what equipment (p trap, etc do I need)

obviously the inlet rubber hoses are ok, but the pipe supplying these are ok, but far too long, How do I shorten them?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...too skint to get a plumber out (If I could even get one, they're a bit thin on the ground at the moment!)

I actually did this yesterday (I'm a computer programmer, not a plumber)

I moved my washing machine from an outside leanto into the kitchen. I have to cut the 15mm pipes with a hacksaw and put some metal pipe things into the end of the pipe (to make them rigid or something). Then I bought a couple of 15mm couplers from Wickes and attached them to the pipes and eventually to the inlet hoses.

Job done. It was much easier than I expected, however, I am having issues getting the waste pipe to be on the outside of the property (which is the reason I came to this forum today)
